"Extreme poverty statistics are a window on the world. They are a way of measuring just how poor of a job we are doing taking care of each other." ~Michael Crawley
First read these stats.
When I read over those stats it hurts me. It hurts my soul. It makes me ache. It is a phisical pain for me. There are lots of different causes that tug at my heart strings but this is different. This is not a "cause", this is injustice. It is just obscene.
When I first became aware of some of those statistics it was a game changer for me. It changed the way I see the world and my life forever.
I just can't complain about being "broke". I don't know what its like to worry about money. I can't complain or ever think that I am hungry. I don't know what it is like to be hungry. I can't worry about my weight. Being worried about being overweight is a blessing of a problem to have.
I don't have to walk miles every day for water. I don't have to worry about the safety of pregnancy and childbirth. I will never suffer or die from preventable diseases like malaria. I will never in my lifetime suffer from malnutrition. I will never have to worry that my children might not live to see the age of 5.
All of my problems are so small and insignificant. I have no real problems. My life is a ride on easy street every day. I am blessed beyond measure.
We can step up and do better and take care of each other. There are a couple of different ways to go about it. With your voice and with your money (just a little bit). Check out these two awesome videos one from www.one.org the other from www.thelifeyoucansave.com
