I am a pretty good fruit and vegetable eater. I will pile a plate high with all sorts of green stuff at most meals, even breakfast. Fruits and vegetables are so important to the human diet! They are full of all sorts of wonderful micro nutrients and antioxidants.
Side note: did you know that coffee is the number one source of antioxidants in the American diet? That is crazy! Coffee is such a poor source compared to fruits and vegetables!
But when it comes to produce, I do tend to get in a bit of a rut. Broccoli, spinach, asparagus, sweet potatoes, apples, grapes, bananas .. my trip to the produce isle is pretty predictable. There are so many other things available that I just walk on by mostly because I don't know what to do with them.
So I am making it my goal to expand my food horizons, especially when it comes to produce, but I would like to also explore new cuts of meat, new ways to use nuts and seeds and maybe sea vegetables too. And of course I will document my experiences here for prosterity. I will try to make it a fairly regular feature around here.
I think my first featured food will be fresh cranberries. I don't think I have ever purchased fresh cranberries in my life! So stay tuned to see what I come up with!
