The Mommy Diaries: Moving, Eating, Teeth, Feet, and Funny Faces
My boy is almost 7 months old so I guess its time for another baby update.
Let's get moving!
In my last baby update I mentioned that my son had recently flipped over for the first time. He is now rolling front to back and back to front like a pro. He rolls and plays all willy nilly on the floor. He does not seem to see it as a mode of transportation though. I know lots of kids will roll as a way to get to the things they want but he isn't doing that.
He is also now starting to push up onto his hands and knees and rock back and forth. Crawling is right around the corner and it kind of scares the crap out of me! What am I going to do with a mobile baby?!? OMG - I might have a mini panic attack just thinking about it!
Eat, eat, eat!
We started solids recently. We are taking the baby lead solids approach. If you are not familiar it is basically a method of introducing solids by allowing your baby to self feed when they are interested and ready and skipping the spoon feeding puree phase.
This approach makes a lot of sense to me but choking is a big fear of mine. I really believe that allowing my son to handle his own food is the safest (and most fun!) way for him to eat, but it is kind of scary to see him jam what I think is way too much food into his mouth all at the same time. Its hard to see him start to gag or seem to have a hard time managing what he has.
But I really believe that spoon feeding where he has no idea what he is getting into in terms of volume or texture before it's in his mouth is not the most pleasant or safest way to eat. And me sticking my finger in his mouth to pull food out or patting his back when he gags only increases his chances of choking so I just have to be brave and let him work it out. And he always does.
It is going great! After only a few short weeks he rarely gags or seem to have trouble managing his food so it's becoming easier to just trust the process.
He loves, loves, loves to eat! We have tried sweet potato, banana, asparagus, avocado, green beans, broccoli, apple, pear, zuchini, spaghetti squash, baby carrots and liver and onions. He has loved it all!
If I sit down to eat without offering him something he gets really really upset so if I'm eating something I'm not willing to share (fast food) I have to make sure I have something on hand to offer him instead or else I will hear about it!
Sharing meals with my baby has been a lot of fun!
My little Jew boy got a very special Christmas present this year - his first tooth! And just a few short days later the second one followed. He has the cutest little smile with those bottom two toothers showing. So fun!
I have started taking him to the bathroom with me when I brush my teeth and hand him his own little toothbrush to play with. Hopefully leading by example will help him develop healthy brushing habits. We will see.
He has reached that phase where he is allways grabbing his toes. It's so cute. It makes diaper changes a bit of a challenge though. If I offer a toy to keep his hands busy that sometimes helps. He will even grab his feet and play with his toes while he is nursing and sometimes the boob gets replaced with a foot. Silly boy!
He has started making this really funny scrunched up face all the time. I call it his stinker face, my husband calls the looks mean mugs, haha. It's a cute and funny new thing he does. The other day we went to the Verizon store to get me a new phone and he kept making that look at the sales guy that was helping us. We all joked that the baby thought he was his nemesis. Haha!
